NESST Hike Reports written by 9th West Bridgford (Holy Spirit) Cub Pack

On 19th January 2008 some of the 9th West Bridgford cubs went on a 5.8 mile walk. We started at 3:00pm and finished at 6:30pm. On the way we had to spot 12 bird pictures but we only saw 5. Half way through I got my book stuck but the second time I got my foot stuck in the mud! Then we hjad a hot dog and some oozing hot chocolate.

Afew minutes later Matthew lost his glasses in the mud and everyone was searching for it with torches. When we walked for quite some time we got some sausage, baked beans and chips then we went home. When I took off my boots water fell out! I had a great time and proud for what I have done.

We were not the only cub pack on the walk there were lots of other packs. We got to choose a partner, I chose Matthew, and half way through the walk we had a hot dog and a mug of hot chocolate. It began to get dark and we had to trudge through a very water logged patch. The walk itself was 5.8 miles long we worked that out at cubs. Suddenly disaster struck my partner Matthew got his glasses knocked off and they smashed on the ground. For the rest of the walk I helped Matthew. I couldn't walk very fast because I didn't have big enough socks on and I had huge blisters. At the very end of the walk we had a dinner of sausage beans and chips. May favourite bit of the walk was when I fell over.

I was the first one there 35 minutes early, I was nervous I don't know why. I was partnering with my friend James. We set off on the walk we need to find 12 birds, I had a packet of fruit pastilles and chewing gum and a drink. We past a chicken farm and half way we got a hot dog. Then disaster struck we had to run across a massive puddle, there was water in my boots then when Harty went over a stile his boot hit my face and my glasses fell off and broke so I had to carry on when I could not see and we had to go through a narrow path and there was barbed wire on the right and a fence on the left and I could not see but I got to the end then a man said we went the wrong way through the narrow path. I had my tea went home and fell in my bed. In the end we did 5.8 miles.

I enjoyed the walk. It was the muddiest walk I had ever been on in my life plus the most wettest walk. On one part of the walk it was waqterlogged and the water came up to our knees. One person's wellies came off and his sock was sunk in the water. I was really hungry and thirsty and I was so happy when we got to the first checkpoint. We had a hot dog plus ketchup and a really hot hot chocolate. Then we started to walk again.
